Malo 8 of Frieze Films shoots for some of SA's biggest agencies

Frieze Films' Malo 8 ended 2010 with a string of back-to-back commercials. Brought on board by some of the country's biggest agencies to collaborate on commercials for South Africa's favourite brands, post World Cup, Malo shot Kiwi Shoe Polish's first TVC as a new client at Ogilvy Cape Town, Cuddlers for Grey Advertising, and Doom and Ace for TBWA Hunt Lascaris.

January 2011 starts with a shoot for The Jupiter drawing Room in Cape Town, an extensive post-production piece to be completed with BlackGinger.

Frieze Films executive producer, Jo Barber, comments on his entry into the advertising business and his plans for the12 months ahead: "Over the past three years, Malo and I have carefully developed his career by purposefully selecting to work with only the best directors of photography, editors, crews and researchers.

"As a result of this approach, Malo's strengths as a performance director with a capacity for sensitive story telling have been made apparent, and we have been very fortunate in securing the support of a number of loyal clients who have trusted his vision and had the foresight to understand his talents. Without their support, our journey would have been much harder.

"I look forward to the work going forward and the continuing development of Malo's career, and firmly believe his voice will become an increasingly important one in the South African advertising landscape."

Local creative directors, such as Ogilvy Cape Town Creative Group Head, Prabashan G Pather, concur: "Malo 8 has a passion and energy that is incredibly infectious. His unique vision was just what our board needed. Above all he is really a great down to earth guy, and an absolute pleasure to be around on set and off set. These are the characteristics that put Malo high up on my list for future treatments. I will keep a close eye on his career in the coming years, as I am pretty sure that he will be going places," he said.
