On 18 and 19 November, in partnership with Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau and the Goethe Institut, Big Bad Wolf Pictures is presenting an international Short Film Festival through the company's initiative the "Our City Film Project", a filmmakers collective comprising of young filmmakers from around the world.
Each year a theme is selected and short films (which embody the year's theme) are showcased in celebrating cultural diversity, storytelling as well as celebrating young emerging filmmakers through the short films they make.
For 2017 the theme is "LGBT Films Across All Genres".
The project aims to present the best films within the years’ theme with attention to originality, direction, performance, structure and production value.
Selected from over 2310 submissions, this year a total of 53 LGBT shorts (49 being premieres, screening for the first time on African soil), will be showcased in a diverse offering featuring the work of over 89 featured filmmakers representing over 30 different cities, all celebrating different aspects of this theme. The films span across multiple genres such as Dramas, Comedies, Documentaries, Animations and Artist Films, including the world's first ever "Action Musical" - all within the short-film length format, ranging between short-shorts (sub-15 minutes) and long-shorts (15-30 minutes).
From the selected films, winners of various categories will be selected by a judging panel and a special Audience Award will be given to the film that audiences get to vote on as the best.
